about

Monika Janek returns with her second EP expanding on the diverse palette offered up in her first release "Our Time Machine". "Into The Future" picks up where its predecessor left off, similarly opening with a deep techno excursion driven by classic 909 beats and bathed in dubby analogue chords. The groove remains sparse while effects and occasional auxiliary percussion punctuate the dark and moody dynamics.

"Show Me Your Love" immediately shifts things into more playful territory, with a peculiar down-up synth and bass motif that sets the backdrop for a strange and dark love scene. The rhythms establish a distinct spacious outline with miniature sounds pasted against a robust kick drum, eventually coloured in with metallic modular hits and insistent hi-hats. An ominous melodic pad creeps in occasionally behind tech synth stabs, hinting toward a classic electro vibe.

"Penthouse Princess" exemplifies Monika's hybrid style of combining classic detroit techno sounds and broad retro futuristic themes with repetitive minimal grooves. With a steady 909 backdrop, this track traverses through a sequence of pensive motifs that are both hopeful and melancholy, with brief minimal interludes highlighting some interesting modular arp sequences.

An optional second mix of "into the future" rounds off the release, painting the title track with slightly more clinical brush strokes - offering a slightly less organic sound that is just as deep as the first mix.

A bonus Streetlights remix of "Into The Future" is also included, with select sounds veering sharply and recklessly into a retro synthwave version. Additional melodies are backed by dramatic chordal movement, spastic synth flourishes and snare fills drenched in garish gated reverb.
